Kindergarten in the city of Essen

Growing up in daylight

In the parish of St. Lambertus, just outside Essen in Germany, a unique kindergarten has been developed, based on the concept of a small village. The many different building designs are drawn together by an interior central hall, designed for play and social interaction, and covered by a VELUX ridgelight with 20 modular skylights. A distinctive colour scheme, visible on the gables through the skylights, helps toddlers and pre-schoolers navigate the interior.
